Looking Ahead
Proposed Multiplex
Council has expressed strong support for a swimming pool within Parksville, plus a multiplex facility combining sports, fitness, and community gathering space.
A pool and multiplex could be the single biggest thing Parksville does for young families — and for keeping grandkids coming back to visit. The 2026 budget includes $750K–$1M for a lacrosse box / multi-sport court as a near-term step. The full multiplex remains a longer-term aspiration that will require significant capital planning.
Inventory
Parks Inventory
32 parks
4 major parks and 28 neighbourhood parks maintained by City Operations.
140+ annual events hosted across parks. Annual maintenance handled by the City Operations department — mowing, drainage, tree care, facility upkeep, and seasonal event preparation.
Governance
Who Runs What
An important distinction that often causes confusion:
RDN-operated (not the City):
• Oceanside Place Arena (located in Parksville)
• Ravensong Aquatic Centre (located in Qualicum Beach)
• Sports field bookings

City-operated:
• All 32 parks — maintenance, infrastructure, event coordination

The City maintains the parks; the RDN runs the programs. Knowing who does what matters when advocating for improvements.

Keep them thriving.

Parks are where Parksville is at its best — families at the beach, sports under the lights, neighbours sharing a picnic shelter. Investing in these spaces, and being clear about who runs what, is how we keep them thriving.
